Every day in our societies we seem to be moving ever closer to the line between what is real and what is imaginary. For all the ‘Fake News’ which is manufactured, is basically just reporting events in a manner which ‘supports’ the writer’s stance or opinion, and the network media companies countering this ‘fake news’ with their own ‘fake news’ (sorry for the repetition, I just wanted to make a point).
Being English, I grew up playing football. Nothing unusual about that. Millions of boys were the same as me. Playing in the park, playing for teams, supporting a team(usually a top team, if you were from a small town. I supported Liverpool, and I am not a Liverpudlian).
This was what most boys did(girls did not play then, for all you PC brigade). It was life. Driven by 2 things; desire, and positive peer pressure. The thought of being left out was not something anyone wanted to experience. What were you to do when all of your friends were playing? This is how serial killers are made!!!!(my attempt at humour).
Nouvelle cuisine or just plain hungry?
All around us, we are saturated with food. Magazines, blogs, travel shows, TV chefs, celebrity chefs, reality shows…… Everywhere!!
My topic today is not about another of the recent crazes to afflict mankind, but today I would like to talk about something which has graced our presence for decades. ‘Nouvelle cuisine’ The term is french and translates as ‘new cooking’. It blends various styles with an emphasis on presentation, and not quantity.
People! Please everyone listen to me now, as I am a parent, and everything I say is the new truth!!!!
The truth is, humans have been reproducing since we evolved from our previous form (this is not a blog about our origins), so people the world over have been mothers, and fathers, etc…… since time began.
With the recent passing of three very recognizable faces in the music world, it is hard not to reflect on how the face of music has changed over the last several decades, and is still changing. Aretha Franklin, David Bowie, Prince, and Lemmee of Motorhead fame, were 4 artists whose work spanned generations, who images were always evolving and changing with the times, and whose love of music was their driving factor.
This blog is in recognition of a trend which is becoming more and more prevalent in sports. This is the presence of
stars from the world of entertainment being present, or taking part in sporting events (not as competitors, but as attractions). I am a big fan of the sport of tennis. I watch the matches. I do not follow the player’s lives outside of their matches. I have no interest in their private lives, who they are dating, what clothes they wear, etc…, (my
personal view). There are millions of fans who for them, this is a major part of the reason they follow the sport, which I fully understand.
I should have known better, but against my better judgement I decided to take in the latest saga in the Star Wars ‘brand’. I actually have a general rule of thumb which is, “if the 1st installment is good, don’t expect any improvement in subsequent installments”. By and large this philosophy has served me well. As an example, The Bourne series was ceased (by me) after the 2nd movie(3 and 4 were so dire that I cannot bring myself to mention them) because often the decline in quality is immediate, and although I was a Star Wars fan from the original movie(showing my age now), there were a couple of duds in these (read Attack of The Clones, and The Phantom Menace). But overall, with George Lucas at the helm I persevered with it. We have all, at some point in our lives seen children doing talented things, or things which are beyond their tender years. We think to ourselves “How sweet, or how cute”. They must be gifted to be able to do this at such a young age.
