As we reach another closing ceremony for the latest ‘Greatest show on Earth’ ,the Olympics have provided some remarkable sporting achievements by athletes from all over the world. Records have been broken, new sports have been introduced, negatively, there have also been scandals relating to doping, and problems beset some of the the venues.

Divide, distract and pacify

It was talking about political speeches and how they all sound the same. One of the most significant political events, which has just concluded, is the RNC or Republican National Convention in America. Over the course of 3 days there have been numerous speeches by political leaders, congressmen, Police Chiefs, family members, wives, and others. Obama
As President Barack Obama comes the end of his second term as President of the USA, this blog will reflect on his historic presidency as the 1st African American president.
When he was on the brink of becoming the president many in America, and around the world were surprised that America was going to change track after 200 plus years. His subsequent election and the mixture of euphoria and disbelief it created, was something, which for me, as a black man, will stay with me forever.

Tax exempt, or milking the system?
There are many organisations which are exempt from paying tax on their earnings. Tax exemption is usually granted to what are known as ‘non-profit’ organisations.
The very moniker should describe accurately the fact that these companies make no profit on their activities. Yet around the world, and in The USA in particular, there is
an underlying theme of organisations which are in effect ‘companies’ and these ‘companies’ are in ‘business’ to make a profit, yet they are exempt from paying tax.
I no longer have an opinion.
Over the last 100 years or so, the world has changed more drastically than at any other time in its history. Most of the changes have been due to technology which has changed the way we live, the places where we live, the way we get information, and last but not least, the way we view each other. In our societies there many “groups” of people. Races, disabled, (both physically and mentally), extremists, LGBT,(for those of you who don’t know, these are lesbian,gay,bisexual and transgender), socialists, communists, chauvinists, etc, the list is endless.
To EU or not to EU? (that is the question)
Europe has been a disaster. This statement has been used on many occasions since the formation of the European Union in 1993. It was established to provide greater unity between the more prominent countries such as Germany, France, the UK and Italy (there are more but these are sufficient for now).

As the current European migrant situation sees no signs of abating anytime soon, many people in European countries are beginning to focus on nationalism.The rights of the common nation in many European countries are being eroded in favour of those who are arriving on their shores seeking asylum.
