I want to talk about a movie I watched, starring Matt Damon, whom I actually like as an actor(one of the very few). The film was called the Martian.
It was about an astronaut who was a part of a team on a mission on the surface of Mars. During the mission the team encountered a storm and had to take off to save themselves, but Matt Damon’s character was hit by an object before he could make it back to the ship, and was presumed dead. He survived, and eventually made contact with earth. The rest of the movie was about his survival, the plan and mission to rescue him. Read more
Elections are the bedrock of democracy. This statement is supposed to give comfort to billions of people around the world, who believe in the system of government which has been in place for many hundreds of years. Yet, if you look at governments around the world, you will find that the systems which have been put in place to ‘elect’ the Presidents, Prime Ministers, and Chancellors of this world, are very flawed.
We know they did it.
Finally, after two decades of bulls**t it has finally been acknowledged that the 9/11 towers were all brought down by
explosives. What does this signify? I will tell you. It signifies one of the worst episodes in recent world history. Not only due to the actions of the people involved, but also the catastrophic knock-on effects, which are still being felt in several parts of the world. Read more
She’s a model.
Another story in the news about a young woman. She always seems to be a model, or part-time model. She is reasonably attractive If not the traditional model(tall, skinny), then a lingerie or swimwear model, but the kind of girl you would notice if you were walking along the street. The hook to get the reader’s attention. Why is it necessary to inform us that this girl happens to do part time modelling as well as her ‘day job’. Is this to tell me that I, as a man,
must find her desirable, and as a woman, must aspire to be like her? We don’t care if she is a model. Millions of much
prettier girls are not models. Another chapter on the pathway to all of society basing everything on ‘the look’, ‘the
sex appeal’ Or do we have to ask ourselves.
Are we so dumb as a species that we must be presented with everything labelled so as to make up our minds as how to respond? So if they tell us that she is a model, then our “she is really sexy/pretty..” mindset kicks in. As we can’t,
as it seems, think for ourselves any longer, and must be ‘fed’ our opinions. Another of these aspects is the ‘beauty pageant’. Why are we told that these women are models, and are so desirable that if we do not fall at their feet and worship them, then there is something wrong with us?
Reality check: these women may be mildly attractive. No more so than a woman we may see in a shopping mall most days. However, numerous visits to spas, make up artists, hairdressers, and a wardrobe from some of the most sort after designers being at their disposal, means that they are not beautiful, they are manufactured. These people never set foot outside their doors without intense preparation. Maybe it is because they know they are not the essence of desire, but the girl next door, once the layers have been removed. A lot of the blame rests firmly with the male species. We compete for female attention and want to show off our prize to other adoring males. “My girl is a model” as if this word is an automatic passport to beauty and adoration. She probably, as is most cases, did some cigarette promotions, or exhibitions, as eye candy'(see this blog)
I read a disturbing, yet all too familiar article the other day on the BBC website. Preachers getting Rich from Americas poor Now the reason for this article is twofold. Firstly it deals with the issue in general of this common practice, and secondly, it has affected me personally. It is the ‘TV Evangelists’
The one good thing I have to say is they they never took off in England, not to say that people in England or the UK do not follow them. I am saying that we do not have one that I know of or can think of. We always associate them with America, Africa, and Asia to name the main players in the game.
The counterpart to the worldwide movement named #MeToo, is my version of a movement, which is not countering the #metoo movement, but asking questions about relationships between male and female.
Throughout history, men have been the pursuers, the charmers, the chasers of women. Whole industries have made countless billions over centuries due to this basic fact. So now we have world where men are now on their guard when it comes to physical, and visual contact, and verbal interaction, with the opposite sex.
Degrees obtained via technology.
In most countries getting a university education is more important than ever. The importance of having one is underlined by the fact that 90% of jobs which have a path, or some type of progression need the applicant to be the holder of a degree.
But are the courses which are available, real preparation and theory to do a job, or just a piece of paper which tells the employer that the applicant has spent 4 years studying? and are the things being studied, actually being studied, or are students just gathering information and placing it in reports to present?
I came across this interesting article in the wake of the Nice attack.
9 Reasons To Question The Paris Terror Attacks
An intriguing title you might ask. And you would be right. What is the meaning behind it? All will become clear shortly.
There is an increasing connection between religion and football?
Well. In this world of mass sporting investment and expansion worldwide, certain things have crept in which are altering the face of certain sports.
There is a lot which can be said on this subject. Leaders of the free world(whatever that means),the greatest nation in the world, Leaders of democracy. These are some of the self-awarded accolades which Americans have given to themselves, but we have to separate the nation from the people in this instance.
